rem sleep behavior disorder Sleep Forum - Questions & AnswersDoes my husband have a sleep disorder? REM Behavior Disorder..?Question: My husband is in the military and probably does not get as much sleep as he should. About 7 hours every night and he works about 10-12 hours a day. He has always been a heavy sleeper but ever since he has been in the military, he has had weird sleeping habits. He sometimes shouts nonsense things in the middle of the night, and quite often his body will tense up or he will thrash about the bed. I wasn't too worried about it until recently because he hurt me in his sleep on accident. I was laying on his arm and his arm wraped around my head and he tensed up really bad and he hurt my head. I am worried because if that had been my neck he could have seriously injured me. He has no recolection of doing these things. I have done some research and thought it might be REM behavior disorder or RBD. But I am not sure. Does anyone know anything about sleep disorders and can possbily give us some advice? He has been sleeping on the floor because he doesnt want to accidently hurt me again and it makes me so sad that he is scared of hurting me in his sleep. Please give advice if you have it!!Answer: If your husband is in the military, he has access to excellent medical care. He should talk this over with his doctor and the doctor will order a sleep study or perhaps even a psychological exam. President Obama has signed new health care legislation into law especially for military personnel to help them deal with post traumatic stress disorder and other issues. Please don't hesitate to follow up on this and get the help he needs because sleeping on the floor for the rest of his life is not acceptable at all. This can and should be fixed. Thank you and him for your service. I wish you all the best. ![]() ??????about rem sleep behavior disorder ?????Question: what are common symptoms and treatments for this condition? i have observed a friend and they will sit up and sing during sleep or talk out loud about the things they are dreaming about and even kick or push and when i tried to wake them up they responded as if i were part of the dream, an example being my shaking there shoulder to wake them and they scream out get off get off and kick and shove out but is still alseep. Is this RBD? They are taking other medications and seem to fit what i have read but i am not sure of what to do? i want my friend to go have a sleep study. please give any info you can or input that may help.Answer: modern sleep studies are very professionally conducted, and this friend has a potentially serious condition. I don't know about RBD, but it does not seem like a good sleep and the medication situation can be quite a mess. If they have the correct health insurance, a sleep study is well worth it.the technicians are generally very gentle and professional, and respect the discomfort people bring to this experience that can make a person very self-conscious. ![]() More information regarding Shift Work Sleep Disorder |
